Exploring Opportunity & Challenges to Operationalise Family Friendly Policies in India’s Apparel and Textile Value Chain
Overview
UNICEF and CRB, to propel the agenda of inclusive and sustainable businesses, worked on a scoping project aimed at advancing discussions on the need for and benefits from designing factories and workplaces for the future.
This study was focused on the impact that positive Family Friendly policies can have on the business environment and sustainability in the Textile sector. Since textiles is one of the largest workforces in India after agriculture and has a high number of women employees, it is necessary to have a positive family friendly work environment to ensure the safety and protection of the women in the textile workforce if we are to have positive results for women and children.
The adoption of UNICEF family-friendly policies can not only make a positive impact on the lives and livelihoods of workers but can also help businesses reduce supply chain risks such as supply disruptions critical to business continuity.
Objectives
• Increased action by business, business stakeholders and key influencers on the direct and indirect impact of business policies and operations on children
• Developing a ‘business cases’ for adoption of Family Friendly policies.
• Documentation of existing industry ‘good practices’ of Family Friendly policies in apparel & textiles sector
